Self-image
I look upon the girl in the mirror
And sneer at how worthless she is
I am sickened by the sight of
Such a dirty, beaten creature
Her trampled soul glows dimly
From behind her lifeless eyes
Telling the tale of how it became
The sidewalk for the world
She is nothing to me
The tears well in her ancient eyes
And spill onto her face of stone
Those tears jolt me from my reverie
And I realize...she is me
I am crying...calling...reaching out
For I am not yet deceased
Am I truly that cold and damaged girl
Who has been walked on by so many?
Shall I give up my meaningless life,
Or is there hope of salvation?
Love is the only light in my shattered mind
You are the only one who understands
Please don't misjudge me now
Just hold me close and let me cry
Before I drown in my tears of pain
You are the single source of that light to me
So please don't give up on me now
